Pippins Question Box, A Brand New School Year!

Hey everybody! It's a brand new school year! I'm Piedoodles, and I'm the manager, or at least I think I am. Pippin's Question Box is a site where a question will be posted, and then people, like you answer them. That sounds really boring doesn't it? Well, these aren't normal questions, these are really weird and out of this world, not literally, questions that'll be fun to research and read about. For the pursuit of science! Every week a new question will be posted, and if you have any comments, or questions you want on the blog email me at Piedoodle@gmail.com. Also, if you think questions aren't that interesting, email me! I want your fee back on what would make this a site you would love to always go on, and you never know, prizes may be rewarded to those who go on weekly! Get ready for a year of fun and science. Also, please, try not to use yahoo or sites like that. Sites may be provided, so the first question of the year is...

What causes dreams and hallucinations?

Pippin's Question Box

What makes the different types of blood (O, A, B, AB) different?

Pippin's Question Box

Blood, a thing that creeps me out but makes me wonder,

Why do different organisms have different color blood? For instance, why do we have red blood and some, if not all, insects have green blood?
Different things are different colors, but blood is blood, or so I thought.

Pippin's Question Box

Hi, everybody, I'm a new manager along with Toads Rockz and awesome_spectacular1009. Since some people (ahem awesome_spectacular1009 and Toads Rockz, well not as much Toad Rockz, more like awesome_spectacular) have been neglecting the question box, Pippin found in necessary to find another manager. I'll be helping manage the question box from now on! Yay! Anyway, onwards with the topic, clouds. Have you ever stared up at the sky and wondered about the clouds? (That's not the real question!) Well, I certainly have and I came up with this question,
Why are clouds normally white, but when it's about to rain they turn grey?
Don't forget, don't use sites like yahoo answers!

Balancing Equations

Here are a ton of problems for balancing equations: I challenge you to time yourself and post the time it takes to complete them.  But first, some tips:

Use the REP method. REP stands for Reactants, Element, Product. It's simple and a handy little chart that helps you keep track of the reactants and products, of course.  Here's a sample diagram to balance N2 + H2 -> NH3
R: 2  2
E: N H
P: 1  3
Does it start to make sense? You make the E row first, as it is all the elements that appear in the equation.  Then, just write the amounts of reactants/products above and below its corresponding element.  If I balance the equation like so: N2 + 3H2 -> 2NH3 then I will have to change my REP table
R: 2  6
E: N H
P: 2  6
See how the R and P columns match? Once they match, then you are done.  If they don't, then just keep on fiddling with those coefficients.

So, one of my old worksheets on balancing equations, in a nutshell:
KClO3 -> KCl + O2
NaCl+ F2 -> NaF + Cl2
H2 + O2 -> H2O
Pb(OH)2 + HCl -> HO4
AlBr3 + K2SO4 -> KBr + Al2(SO4)3
CH4+ O2 -> CO2 + H2O
C3H8 + O2 -> CO2 + H2O
C8H18 + O2-> CO2 + H2O
FeCl3 + NaOH -> Fe(OH)3 + NaCl
P + O2 -> P2O5
Na + H2O -> NaOH + H2
Ag2O -> Ag + O2
S8 +O2 -> SO3
CO2 + H2O -> C6H12O6 + O2
K + MgBr -> KBr + Mg
HCl + CaCO3 -> CaCl2 + H2O + CO2
H2O + O2 -> H2O2
NaBr + CaF2 -> NaF + CaBr2
H2SO4 + NaNO2 -> HNO2 + Na2SO4

The Elements!

Just something to help you study for today's elements test!

Ehh...Sorry About This...

Hi guys...well...Sorry for the long absence...I really wished that more people would go on the Question Box... :( but no one will even think to go on the blog if the managers don't even go on the blog themselves...so...

Here I am!  Toads Rockz!  Back to post a question for all you Question loving blog readers that are still here! Yay!  Hooray for blogging!!!

This question is related to the Chemistry topics that we have been going over in class recently!  Please check in on the blog if you need help studying for our final science chemistry test of the year!   :D

Now...time for the Question...

Why are balanced equations important in the field of Chemistry?

Remember to use a good source when answering this question (yes you can even use your text book! but not sites like Yahoo Answers...I'm sure you guys can tell the difference...)

Also, as extra practice, I will be posting questions from some of the sheets that Sunnyd gave to us to help us review for the test!

Here is the first question!

Is this balanced equation correct?

H2 + O2  -> H2O

That's it for now!  Keep checking on the blog, daily for more science help!

Pippin's Question Box

Based on the science dissection that we just had the past week, The managers of the question box have decided to check your knowlage of frogs!

This weeks question is...

What type of heart does the frog have? (Name the parts as well). For this question you should just use either your lab packet or the notes that you took during the dissection! After all, you don't need a website to tell you things that you witnessed hands on!

Science Site!

I was just listining to the radio this afternoon (yes people still have radios!)  and I heard about this great new site!  Its a website that talks about all diffrent science related topics!  Here is the link to the site!   Quoted from the site "Scitable is a free science library and personal learning tool brought to you by Nature Publishing Group, the world's leading publisher of science.  Scitable currently concentrates on genetics and cell biology, which include the topics of evolution, gene expression, and the rich complexity of cellular processes shared by living organisms. Scitable also offers resources for the budding scientist, with advice about effective science communicationand career paths."

Even though most of you will probably not visit the site, I encourage all of you(njguy and magnoilia blossom) to at least look at it!  Its really interesting and its a great site to look at!

ANOTHER CHANCE TO GET EXTRA CREDIT!

Since not enough people are going on the question boxes, we want to make some changes and offer some rewards too. First of all, if you listened to Beta Scientists at all today, and you're reading this right now, congratulations! We are giving away extra credit for the test on Monday. All you have to do is answer the current question! (Why does snow around the edges melt first?) To get the extra credit, you have two options:
            1) answer the question and provide a link by commenting on the post for the question box.
            2) This same question will be on the test, or there might be a blank space provided for you to answer it if you can't comment on the blog.

*remember, in order to receive credit, you must make sure you have a thorough answer, plenty of details, and if you're commenting on the blog, a link*

Other than that, we are also looking for some ways to change the question box up a little. We are deciding on if we want to also offer a "mystery prize," let people post up their own questions, etc.

If you have any ideas, feel free to comment!
